Mohammad Nawaz loses county contract after positive drug test: report
Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is facing major setbacks after reportedly testing positive for recreational drug use, with his planned county stint now cancelled.
The development stems from a sample collected during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where Nawaz was part of Pakistan’s squad. Following the result, the Pakistan Cricket Board has launched an official investigation into the matter.
One of the immediate consequences has been the collapse of his deal with Surrey County Cricket Club for the upcoming T20 Blast. Nawaz had already received clearance to participate, but the agreement has now been withdrawn amid the ongoing probe.
The 32-year-old featured in all of Pakistan’s matches during the World Cup, contributing modestly with both bat and ball. However, the off-field controversy has cast serious doubt over his short-term future in international and franchise cricket.
Despite the situation, Nawaz has continued to play in the Pakistan Super League, representing Multan Sultans while the investigation proceeds.
If the violation is confirmed, he could face disciplinary action under anti-doping regulations, including possible suspension. The final outcome will depend on the PCB’s inquiry and further ICC procedures.
