India’s Parliament has passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 after it received approval from the Rajya Sabha following a marathon debate.
The Upper House cleared the legislation in the early hours after an extensive discussion lasting over 12 hours, with 128 members voting in favour and 95 against.
The bill had already been approved by the Lok Sabha, completing the parliamentary process and paving the way for it to become law after presidential assent.

With Parliament’s approval now complete, the bill moves to the next stage, where it requires the President’s assent to officially become law.
